Q: My husband do family violence. He drinks and then beat me. Sometimes he hit my kids as well. I don’t have any valid visa
Can I do complain against him. If I do complain what will happen to me and my kids?
A:
The state and federal law provide you with a number of perfectly applicable legal actions to be safe from the domestic abuser regardless of your immigration status.
1. Immediately call the local police once you or your child are threatened, injured, beaten up etc. make a police report and comment your or your child injuries ,
2. Go to the local court and file an order of protection from that violent domestic abuser. If you do not know how to do so, request assistance from the court personnel that will assist you in that matter,
3. Consult with a licensed immigration attorney confidentially regarding VAWA protections which may present viable legal options for you to adjust your status.
Finally, do not be passive: act now as you should not be used as a punching bag for anyone.

A: You should contact the police and a lawyer immediately. Don't be afraid. It's your and your kids' life and well-being at stake here. There are solutions but you need help, don't wait too long. There are many organizations that offer support, e.g., https://www.thehotline.org/.
