Sarasota, FL asked in Consumer Law, Contracts and Construction Law for Florida

Q: Can I fire the roofing co named in my insurance sett. If they are named on ck bc I think they are scammers!?

We settled with ins co to get a new roof. It was one of those companies that knocked on our door. At first they were great; promised us new roof, carpet, paint, etc. now that we got settlement they said we will give u 7500. Use that where u want but that’s all and that’s not even in writing. I havnt signed the settlement docs yet , waiting for legal advice. The lawyer they hired FOR US will not answer any questions. Said she was hired to negotiate monies and she’s done. She does all their legal work. There is SO much more that this company has done/not done to us but I need to TALK to you. Not enough space. But mainly can I legally fire them. They have only put a membrane on roof, there idea of FIXING the leak btw. No work yet. BUT their name will be on check. Don’t know how to get them to endorse. Can someone PLEASE call me. I will provide my number immediately. I need help today. I told lawyer I wud send signed docs to her today so she can send check. I will pay for advice!

A: Lawyers on this website are not allowed to call anyone. This website is designed for general information. You need to take the paperwork to a lawyer for a consultation as soon as possible. The lawyer hired to negotiate the settlement was not your lawyer and worked for the roofing company. Do not sign anything without a lawyer reviewing the document.
