Q: Can I contact the judge without a lawyer?
After divorce the lawyer resigned as my lawyer but I need to ask for the judge to assign someone to sign the QDRO on behalf of my fleeing ex. How do I contact the judge? Is it even appropriate?
A: When you represent yourself you have the same access to the court/ judge as a lawyer does. You really need to discuss this with a local family lawyer for specific advice on what you need to do. Look for someone with a free consultation.
A: I would recommend contacting an attorney to represent you if you have the ability to retain one. If not you cannot reach out to the judge directly. If you want to request something of the court you must do so by filing a motion and having it set for hearing.
