Albertville, AL asked in Landlord - Tenant for Alabama

Q: Am I allowed to break my lease/contract with my landlord due to issues with the house?

I live in alabama and my landlord is demanding rent but he has not had anybody come out to fix our house. We have stated that plugs have not been working properly. Some naked wires above stove, gaps and cracks in doors and walls, gaps between the walls and floor in bathroom along with sewage smell coming out of the kitchen, bathtub, and toilet drains. There is a small hole in the dining room where it looked like a plug was supposed to go and it was never patched. Everything listed has been told to the landlord directly along with the landlords house caretaker and no one has made an advance to try to fix it. Landlords caretaker stated the house was fully finished before we accepted to move. Am I wrong for not paying rent due to nobody of my landlords crew not even looking at the problems and much less not trying to fix them?
