A: A grandparent has the right to seek reasonable visitation of grandchildren if the parents are not married and at no time were married to one-another. An analysis is conducted on the best interest of the child standard. However, special weight is given to the parent as to whether it is in the best interest of the child to have reasonable visitation with their grandparent.

Absent a court order, a grandparent has no right to see their grandchild.

If a grandparent is seeking custody, not visitation, of a grandchild, then they must prove that the parent is unfit to parent.
