A: What happens when they file another proof of service (whether or not you actually received proper service) and the court accepts it as valid service, and they obtain a default judgment against you, and start garnishing your bank accounts or pay checks?

Ignoring a lawsuit against you is always a bad idea. It is also a bad idea to focus on whether service is valid or not. If the debt is your debt, you need to deal with it whether you want to or not. You can either contact them and work out a settlement (and payment plan) or you can file bankruptcy and wipe out the debt. Or you can do nothing and have a judgment against you.
