Q: If you get caught driving with a permit in Maryland, and get fined, will you be referred to DIP?
The letter reads: "The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) Administrative Adjudication Division is assigning you to the driver improvement program. You have either been cited for a moving violation while holding a provisional license, accumulated 5 or more points within a two-year period, referred by the courts, or referred by an administrative judge." Since holding a provisional license was not apart of the problem, why am I being assigned? Also, not under the age of 18, and do not hold a provisional license.
A: If you have a provisional license and are convicted of a moving violation, you must do driver improvement or the MVA will suspend your license. In addition, if you get 5 or more points in a two year period (based upon the dates of the citations), you must do driver improvement or the MVA will suspend your license. Either situation mandates driver improvement.
