Bel Air, MD asked in Criminal Law for Maryland

Q: I haven’t been sentenced yet(MD) but on case search and I saw held subcuria just the other day. What does that mean?

I was charged back in 2018 with about 5 counts of misdemeanor credit card theft. I went to court and supposedly took a plea for pleading guilty to just one of the charges. I was never sentenced that day. Due to a couple postponements from both myself and the state and Covid I’m scheduled to go to court for sentencing in a couple of days. I just looked on Md case search and it states “held subcuria”. From my understanding, that means a motion for sentence modification but I was never sentenced yet.

A: It means that the court has delayed sentencing and is holding the matter for future consideration. It usually does mean that the Defendant has filed a motion to modify a sentence and the court is holding the matter to be decided later. In your case, it means that you have been convicted and the court has deferred sentencing until your hearing.
