El Monte, CA asked in Personal Injury and Civil Litigation for California

Q: A cyclist collided with my vehicle. He was severely injured. I was not DUI and did not run. What should I do now?

After the accident, I called 911 and the ambulance came and took the cyclist to the hospital. The police asked me to go to the police station and performed a series of sobriety tests, I also had my blood drawn. The police still has my car now and I want to know what may happen next.

A: You probably should consult a criminal defense attorney who might be able to see what is going on. If they haven't charged you yet with anything they still could be investigating, etc.. If you haven't already you should also tell your insurance company right away.

A: If you were under the influence of drugs or alcohol you may be charged with DUI resulting in serious injury. If you were not under the influence the police will try and determine who was at fault. In either case, contact your insurance company. Good luck. Patrick Steinfeld
