Lancaster, CA asked in Domestic Violence for California

Q: My friend is a victim of DV and was arrested do to her abuser lying.

My friend has been with her abuser for months, she deals with depression and has adhd. Every time she’d try to break up with her, the abuser would start calling talking about suicide, drunk driving making my friend stay out of fear. Her abuser has prior DV charge on another female. She has assaulted my friend several times and she has the pictures on her phone. Last night her abuser pushed her and my friend snapped out of fear and they fought. Her parents called 911 trying to protect her but somehow she was arrested and is facing a felony charge and this is her first offense ever. She’s been beaten in the past and the abuser beating up her ex as well, she developed fear and finally snapped. The abuser was not arrested even though they have priors DV charge. The abuser lied to the cops and claimed she was unconscious. How can anyone prove that? Her roommate stated she could hear them fighting and yelling to whole time so when was she unconscious? How do I help her?
