Sylmar, CA asked in Domestic Violence and Elder Law for California

Q: I was falsely accused of elder abuse

My family has been falsely accused of abusing our 94-year-old mom (she is bedridden and has moderate dementia). We believe that one of mom's caregivers raised the accusations because we were not happy with her work and let her go. But we don't know for sure.

Two LAPD officers came to my mom's house, looked throughout the house and interviewed us and my mom. Later that day, they came back and said they found no evidence of abuse of any kind and said the case was closed. Two days later, a gentleman from social services came. He asked us a few questions. He asked to speak with mom alone. He came back and said that my mom denied all charges and left. He gave no other comment or information. We haven't heard anything for over a week.

Is there a way to find out who made these accusations and/or find out the status of this investigation? Do we need legal representation at this point?. The police investigators gave us their contact information and what appears to be a case number.
