Q: How would I go about getting my children back from protective custody housing system?

Their mother took them into a battered women's shelter, but I have custody of them.

A: You need to meet with an experienced divorce and family law attorney. This is not an issue that you should attempt to handle on your own. If you file an application with the court and lose, you cannot then simply decide to then hire a lawyer to refile the application correctly.
