Slippery Rock, PA asked in Sexual Harassment for Florida

Q: Can/Should I file a police report about something illegal that happened in a state I don’t reside in anymore?

In high school (South Florida), I was in a sexual relationship with my teacher. After I graduated, he broke up with me to focus on his “actual girlfriend.” I never filed a police report due to feelings of guilt and shame. After living with the overwhelming emotions for two years, I couldn’t bear to stay in Florida, so I moved to Pennsylvania. I am now ready to bring the situation to light, however I won’t be returning until the end of the year.

Should I file a police report in the state I currently reside in, or do I have to wait until I move back to Florida? If I file a police report now, how long will it take for the case to be brought to court?

A: How long ago did this happen? You may have a civil case against him but more facts are needed. You should reach out to counsel here in Florida for a private free phone consultation.

A: You would notify the police, or other authorities, in the region of Florida where the abuse occurred.
