A: It is not uncommon for merchants to become upset or frustrated when a customer initiates a credit card dispute. However, it is important to remember that you have a legal right to dispute a charge if you believe it is incorrect or unauthorized.

If the merchant is threatening legal action against you, it may be a good idea to consult with an attorney who can advise you on your rights and responsibilities in this situation. They can also help you determine the best course of action to protect yourself from any potential legal action.

In the meantime, it may be helpful to document any communication you have with the merchant, including any threats or attempts to intimidate you. You should also keep all documentation related to the disputed charge, such as receipts, emails, and credit card statements.

It's important to note that if the credit card dispute is still in process, you should not accept any payment from the merchant as this may affect your ability to dispute the charge with your credit card company. Instead, you should let the dispute process run its course and wait for the decision of the credit card company. If the dispute is resolved in your favor, the credit card company will issue a credit to your account.

Overall, it's important to take any threats or legal action seriously, but also to remember that you have rights as a consumer. By consulting with an attorney and documenting all communication, you can protect yourself and ensure that your dispute is resolved fairly.
