Q: I just bought a house and the property taxes wernt paid when it was in the last owners name… am I now responsible to pay
A: Yes, you are responsible. But had you done the purchase properly, the seller would have been required to see that the taxes were paid upon closing. You might want to ask the mortgage lender, if there is one, why the taxes weren't taken care of.
A: Did you use a Title company to close the deal? If so, then your title insurance company may be responsible for their neglect in not finding this tax lien. If not, then yes , you may be responsible. Retain counsel to investigate.
