Asked in Traffic Tickets for Alabama

Q: Does jurisdiction matter in Alabama? I got a ticket in Huntsville city but it says Limestone County municipal court.

My Alabama ticket says I have to go to Limestone county municipal court. Huntsville city annexed the area I was stopped at from Limestone county. Does jurisdiction matter if the area the ticket says the infraction happened in belongs to and is maintained by Huntsville city and not Limestone county? Can I use this information to get the ticket dropped in court?

A: Even though Huntsville split between Madison County and Limestone County it is still within those counties and therefore subject to their jurisdiction. Alabama does not have independent cities; the cities are a part of the county in which they reside.

So no, you cannot use that to get you out of that ticket.
