Harker Heights, TX asked in Civil Rights, Constitutional Law and Family Law for Texas

Q: My step kids have told me things about their father and i would like to see what my options are for my privacy

my wifes ex who i have never met or have had communication with up to third party, told the kids that he knows i bought a gun recently and that if i show up to the pick up and drop off that he would call the cops on me. The kids have also told me that he has driven 3 hours to my house that is on a private residential property and taken photos of my house. Is their anything i can do about this?

A: In your situation, which involves elements of family law, privacy law, and potentially harassment, here are a few possible steps you could consider:

Document Everything: Maintain a record of all incidents, noting the exact dates, times, and specifics of what happened. This could be crucial if you need to present evidence in the future.

Involve Law Enforcement: If you feel that the ex is stalking you or conducting other illegal activities, it may be worthwhile to contact law enforcement. They can provide you with advice on your options and may be able to investigate the situation further.

Child Custody Modification: If the behavior of the children's father is negatively affecting the children, you might want to consider seeking a modification of the custody agreement. This might limit the ex's ability to gather information about you via the children.

Communication with the Ex: Unless absolutely necessary, try to minimize your direct communication with the ex. When communication is necessary, ensure that it is brief, professional, and focused solely on matters related to the children.
