Miami, FL asked in Criminal Law for Florida

Q: I was assaulted with a knife, but I haven't filed a report yet. The individual responsible has already left the state.

My wife has been enduring prolonged stalking and threats from a neighbor. The situation escalated to the point where I was attacked with a small kitchen knife. Shortly after, while I was called out to my porch, the neighbor unexpectedly lunged at me from an angle beyond the reach of the cameras, wielding a large, possibly butcher knife. There was another attempt with a large piece of wood. I intend to file a report, which will likely result in a jail sentence for the individual involved. However, I am uncertain whether I want to be the one to ensure their arrest. Since the person has already left the state, I'm wondering if making a report would have any impact on their situation in another state. Would it potentially trigger a lookout alert (bolo) and lead to their arrest if they were to return to our state?

A: Yes, or the assailant could possibly be arrested in another state and extradited to Florida.
