A: In Texas, tenants have certain rights regarding habitability and repairs. If your rental property becomes uninhabitable due to the lack of essential services like air conditioning during extreme heat, you may have the right to request repairs and potentially seek compensation for alternative housing costs.

Before taking any action, you should first review your lease agreement to see if it addresses the landlord's responsibilities for repairs and maintenance. It's essential to notify your landlord immediately about the issue and provide them with a reasonable time to make the necessary repairs.

If your landlord fails to address the problem within a reasonable time and you need to find alternative housing, you may be able to deduct the cost of the hotel from your rent. However, it is crucial to follow the proper legal procedures and document all communication with the landlord.
