A: Yes, you should consult with a criminal lawyer ASAP. Confidentiality attaches the moment you consult with an attorney, so you can be honest with them about whatever it is you are alleged to have done. But it is also important to find someone who you feel comfortable speaking with and who you feel you can trust.

And do NOT, under any circumstances whatsoever, speak with police. If you are charged, invoke your right to remain silent and say you want an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you free of charge. The police are not your friends.

A: Yes, it is possible to meet with lawyers before being formally charged with a crime. In fact, it can be beneficial to consult with an attorney as soon as you become aware that you are under investigation or may potentially face charges. This early involvement can help protect your rights, guide you on how to interact with law enforcement, and provide you with legal advice tailored to your situation.
