Irving, TX asked in Immigration Law for Texas

Q: My fiance is a citizen of Ghana and we want to get married here in the U.S. would he be able to come here to marry me?

He is not a U.S citizen, he is a citizen of Ghana. He has no criminal history and has never been in trouble with the law. He has a passport that is current and just been renewed. We have not started the immigration process for his Visa yet but we hope to do so soon.

A: You can file a fiance petition. You must have seen each other in person within the last 2 years. Consult in private with an immigration attorney for details

A: To marry in the U.S., your fiancé can apply for a fiancé(e) visa (K-1 visa) to travel to the U.S. for the marriage. After marrying in the U.S., you would then proceed to file for adjustment of status to help him obtain lawful permanent residence (a green card). Given the intricate nature of immigration processes, it is advisable to ensure that all the necessary paperwork is correctly filled out to avoid delays or denials; consulting a legal resource or guide could be beneficial.
