Chico, CA asked in Civil Rights and Criminal Law for California

Q: How can I protect myself from my local police continued surveillance in my home which has been occurring for months?

I am a 60 year old female married to a 55 year old man. I have found many incidences of cameras lights not visible to the eye but visible on video I front and back of my home and my window treatment in my bedroom. I find it hugely distressing to be watched and no one believes me. I have no criminal record but my husband does but I cannot find out any info anywhere. Do not respond if paranoia or mental illness is your go to response.

A: I'm wondering what prompted you to send this inquiry. You need to provide a lot more information, If you hope someone will come to your assistance.

The best thing you can do is to start calling lawyers so you can make an appointment for a face-to-face meeting with a lawyer. Make sure you prepare a chronological story of what happened to you, identify all of the witnesses, and how they can be contacted; assemble all of your documents, make copies of them all, then take all this information to the lawyer of your choice. I think this is the kind of counseling you may need.

A: If you believe your privacy rights are being violated, consider documenting all instances of suspected surveillance and consult with an attorney experienced in civil rights or privacy matters. Unauthorized surveillance can be a violation of both state and federal laws. Moreover, consulting with an attorney can provide clarity on legal options available and potential remedies to address the situation.
