Q: I received a harassment cease and desist letter from the police dept. Do they expire or have a statute of limitation?
Before my divorce, my then wife left me a note on my door one day telling me to no longer contact her for any reason. She blocked my email, phone number, and all social media accounts. One day, I sent a message to the only social media account she hadn’t blocked me from, one that she hadn’t used in years. In my message I issued an apology and expressed remorse for my part in the relationship ending, and that’s all. It was very brief, cordial, and non-threatening. A couple of weeks later I was sent an email by the police department saying a harassment complaint had been filed against me and was instructed to cease and desist further communication with my ex-wife. I then noticed that she had blocked me from the social media account I sent it to.

While there is no real time limit on a cease and desist, letter from the police, you should take it seriously.
If you need to contact her for a legal reason, you should hire an attorney to do that. If you can not afford one, you should call the police department in your neighborhood, and tell them you will be contacting her for a legal reason only. They can not stop you from doing so unless there is an Order of Protection in place. But, be careful, DO NOT CONTACT her for any other reason.
