Q: My friend with benefits was drunk and was getting crazy in my car i had to pull over out of fear of getting into an acci
Had to call the police station for an officer to come and help calm her down or take her to sober up in the drunk tank. Cops come out and take her in for domestic even though i didnt press charges nor was she being disruptive to them What can I do to make sure she doesn't get charged with anything
A:
Given the circumstances you've described, it's understandable that you want to help your friend avoid legal trouble. However, once the police are involved in a situation, the decision to press charges ultimately lies with the authorities, not with you. Even if you didn't press charges or believe your friend wasn't disruptive to the officers, law enforcement may still decide to pursue charges based on their assessment of the situation and their duty to uphold the law.
Your best course of action is to cooperate fully with the authorities and provide them with any information or assistance they request. Be honest and forthcoming about what happened, including any relevant details about your friend's behavior leading up to the police intervention. Additionally, if your friend is facing charges, encourage her to seek legal representation as soon as possible to ensure her rights are protected and to explore potential defense strategies.
It's also essential to consider your own well-being and safety in situations like this. If your friend's behavior was alarming or potentially dangerous, prioritizing your own safety and the safety of others is crucial. Moving forward, you may want to establish boundaries or reconsider the nature of your relationship with your friend to avoid similar incidents in the future. Ultimately, while you may wish to support your friend, ensuring that everyone involved remains safe and adheres to the law should be the top priority.
