Lynchburg, VA asked in Landlord - Tenant for Virginia

Q: Had court w landlord today, and we asked him for 2 wks to be out, he said 1. What can we do?

We didn’t disagree about what we owe the landlord. We couldn’t go to court bc we can’t lose our jobs w having to move. Judgement was in our landlords favor. We asked him if he could give us 2 weeks to be out, he said “NO 1 week”! He said the courts gave him permission to take possession after April 30th…so he wants it the next day. We have 3 kids, and it’s not easy to move with them. We also did try to work something out w our landlord to pay back rent owed when HE asked us “what can you pay”. We offered paying more each month until we were current…however the landlord then said he wanted an EXTRA $1,000/mo on top of $2,500 rent! We told him that we couldn’t make that happen…it was way too much ($3,500/mo). He knew we wouldn’t be able to pay that much….so it kinda feels like he purposely did that. We tried everything we could to work it out with him, to stay current and pay extra each month.

Now he’s only giving us 1 week, and we have no where to go, we are new to Virginia.
