Bothell, WA asked in Civil Rights, Environmental and Land Use & Zoning for Washington

Q: An industrial business is causing noise, air and water pollution in a rural community, what can residents do about it?

The company has violated multiple permits, and appeals them every time (as fines are nominal) - each time they appeal, like a revolving door, government representatives have their hands tied as long litigation is in process. With each passing day more damage is done to the environment, and the company can simply continue with the status quo. We have searched and been unable to confirm that any SEPA report has been done at the location - although neighbors of the business have testified to seeing and smelling sewage in the creek that runs alongside the location, as well as seeing what they called a "Rat Tsunami" coming from the property. There have been numerous black smoke fires and swirling white/grey dust that covers everything. Please help us understand how we can get an Emergency Stop Work Order in place so that a representative from the EPA can do an assessment of potential health hazards? Thank you. HML
