Columbia, SC asked in Family Law for South Carolina

Q: Just met with GAL in tense custody case; what happens next? Ex is narcissist using children and litigation abuse

We are both RNs. I met him when he was a tech (I worked as a nurse and had an infant son). I helped put him through nursing school, let him adopt my son as his own, all while truly having no clue who he really was.

We split in 8/2022 due to his increasingly abusive behavior towards me following him finding out about my emotional affair that occurred in Spring 2023. We did reconcile and for the kids, I tried to make it work, but I'd had enough of the constant verbal, emotional, financial, and sexual abuse. He finally left but he shocked me and filed for divorce seeking sole custody of children and alleging me to have substance abuse issues a week later, giving me only a week to find a lawyer. I chose the 1st one I found and that was a mistake.

In 11/2023, I checked myself into trt for depression and SI (truly all due to his abuse/intimidation); he then had his attorney call an emerg hearing (stating unfitness). Giving me only 3 hours SUPERVISED with my kids every other Saturday.
