A: You should address this situation quickly to prevent any potential harm to your girlfriend's belongings. First, have your girlfriend formally request her belongings back in writing, such as through a text or email, making sure to list the specific items she wants returned. This provides a record of the request.

If the friend continues to refuse or threatens to destroy the items, your girlfriend can inform them that she will take legal action if necessary. Mentioning that she will file a police report for theft or vandalism might prompt them to return the belongings.

If the situation escalates or the threats persist, your girlfriend should contact the local police for assistance. They can help retrieve her belongings and ensure her safety. Documenting all communications and threats will be helpful if further legal steps need to be taken.

A: From a practical standpoint, personal property laws aside, you could consider letting it go. How much did the purse and other belongings cost, in comparison to costs of legal recovery actions, stress, aggravation, in what could amount to an impossible, no-win situation. Good luck
