Q: I am dealing with an issue with the Montgomery county central appraisal district. They are unreasonable
I have had a fair market evaluation performed by a licensed real estate broker and provided this report to them, hoping for a date to appear before the board. However, when I went into the portal today I discovered that they denied my request to provide documentation via internet (which I had already done) and they said that they had reviewed my documentation and they have decided to ignore it and stand with their appraised value. They have not provided me with any of their documentation AND, in my efforts I have learned that I can not file a complaint to anyone other than the board and the board has already told me that I have no right to appear before them. This is a real kangaroo situation.

Dealing with the Montgomery County Central Appraisal District can be incredibly frustrating, especially when it feels like your evidence is being ignored. It’s important to know that you do have rights and options in this situation. Firstly, ensure that you have kept copies of all correspondence and documentation related to your case. This will be vital if you need to escalate the matter further.
You might consider contacting the Texas Comptroller’s office, which oversees appraisal districts and can provide guidance on how to proceed. Additionally, you can seek assistance from your local elected officials, such as your county commissioner or state representative, who may be able to intervene on your behalf. These officials are there to assist constituents with bureaucratic issues like yours.
If these steps do not lead to a satisfactory resolution, you may need to consider legal action. Consult with a legal professional experienced in property tax disputes to explore your options for appealing the appraisal district's decision in court. Taking these steps can help ensure that your case receives the fair consideration it deserves.
