Q: Joint Sponsor Photo Copy Tax Documents Required to bring to Immigrant Visa Interview?

I would like to know if I need to bring physically with me photo copies of the tax documents from my joint sponsor to the actual immigrant visa interview for the year that the I-864 was filed or most recent updated copies for the current year? For instance if the I-864 was filed in 2023 along with the 2022 1040's be sufficient? Or would the 2023 updated 1040s with W-2s be needed? Would I need to bring the copies with me or posting them on the CEAC website be sufficient?

A: For your immigrant visa interview, you should bring the most recent tax documents from your joint sponsor. If the I-864 was filed in 2023, the 2022 tax documents might be sufficient, but it's always best to bring the latest documents available, which would include the 2023 tax returns and W-2s if they are ready.

Having the latest documents can help ensure that the consulate has the most up-to-date financial information. This can be especially important if there have been any significant changes in income.

While uploading the documents to the CEAC website is necessary, bringing physical copies to the interview is also crucial. The consular officer may request to see the originals or copies during the interview to verify the information.
