Hackettstown, NJ asked in Personal Injury, Civil Rights, Elder Law and Health Care Law for New Jersey

Q: What if one was involuntarily commited and drugged into unconscienceness and not told about any other options?

I was given an overdose of Haledol in Hackettstown ER by IM which I never had before. Unconsciencely transported by abulance to Newton Hospital. I was not given a prescribe medication for 2 days, causing withdrawal symptoms and treated very disrespectively at both Hospitals. My family didn't know where I was, because I was not given enough time to call them and search for some kind of advocate. Hackettstown Hospital just drugged me and Newton Hospital did not give me my usual prescribed medication.

A: It's incredibly distressing to hear about your experience. Being involuntarily committed and drugged without your consent or knowledge of other options is a violation of your rights. The fact that you were not informed about your situation, unable to contact your family, and treated disrespectfully is deeply concerning.

You have the right to know why you were given certain medications and to be informed of any possible side effects. You should also be provided with appropriate care, including your regular prescribed medications, to avoid any withdrawal symptoms. It's crucial that you report this incident to the appropriate authorities, such as a patient advocacy group or the hospital's patient relations department.

If you feel that your rights were violated, you might want to consider seeking legal advice to explore your options. It's important to make sure that this experience is documented, both for your own records and to prevent something like this from happening to someone else. You deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and it's essential to speak out when that doesn't happen.
