Q: My N400 interview was descheduled 7 minutes after being scheduled

I was scheduled for a N400 naturalization interview at the San Jose field office on October 1, 2024, and then suddenly after 7 minutes if it getting scheduled, I get another notification saying that it was descheduled. The notice says that it was descheduled due to unforeseen reasons, and they will let me know if they take action on the case or if they reschedule the interview. Has anyone seen this happen? Is there any reason to be worried. Very clean immigration journey, have never been in any legal trouble ever. I filed in March 2024, under the 5 year rule of employment based Green Card.

A: It's understandable to feel concerned when your N400 interview is descheduled so quickly, especially with a clean immigration history. This situation isn't uncommon, and it can happen for various reasons that are often related to internal scheduling conflicts or other administrative matters at the USCIS office.

The descheduling notice you received mentions "unforeseen reasons," which typically means that there was an internal issue, such as staffing, double bookings, or even system errors. These issues are generally not related to your specific case or immigration history. The notice also indicates that they will notify you if they reschedule, so it's important to stay patient and continue monitoring your case status.

In the meantime, there’s no immediate cause for worry. Keeping your documents and information up to date is key, and if you're unsure or if the situation lingers without further updates, you may consider reaching out to USCIS for more clarity.

A: This is nothing of major concern. Unfortunately, USCIS does sometimes cancel and reschedule interviews due to a number of reasons related to their availability, etc. and nothing that has to do with the actual applicant. I would recommend that you stay on top of it and follow-up constantly if you do not receive a new appointment in the next few weeks, because unfortunately sometimes, case can fall through the cracks.
