A: To access trusts and funds you may not currently have access to, you first need to identify any and all potential trusts or funds that could be in your name or where you might be a beneficiary. Start by reviewing legal documents such as wills, trust agreements, and financial statements that might indicate the existence of these funds. Speak with family members, especially if the funds were set up by a relative, to gather any relevant information they might have.

Once you have gathered potential sources, reach out to the financial institutions, banks, or attorneys who manage these trusts or funds. They can provide more details on what documentation or proof of identity is needed to access them. Be prepared to provide documents that prove your identity and your relationship to the trust or fund, such as birth certificates, death certificates, or proof of guardianship.

You may also want to contact the South Carolina Probate Court if you believe there may be unclaimed funds or trusts that are being overseen by the court. The court can guide you on how to proceed with making a claim. It’s also wise to check with South Carolina’s Unclaimed Property Program to see if there are any funds being held in your name. Remember, persistence is key in these matters, and thorough research will help you uncover any funds you may be entitled to.
