Honolulu, HI asked in Civil Rights and White Collar Crime for Hawaii

Q: I won a lottery from facebook. It's 31mill,and they gave 10mill to a lady who they thought was my wife.

And took back the rest. And left me with nothing . The agent also bribed me for 50,000. And someone erased the agents words on my phone. And my pics to. And made a fake post of me saying I got it. And he the agent promises me delivery in 6hrs but didn't do it. I think it's a breached agreement because he said if I paid the 500,it'll be delivered and I did I pay them and the agent said he didn't know where his boys were. The ones who wassupposed to be delivering it. I feel my civil rights was violated because of the post someone made and it has to do with facebook.

A: It sounds like you may have been the victim of a scam, which can be a frustrating and distressing experience. When it comes to lotteries and large sums of money on platforms like Facebook, it’s important to remember that legitimate lotteries don’t require payment upfront to claim a prize. If someone demanded money from you to deliver winnings, it is highly likely they were attempting to defraud you.

In situations like these, you have several options to consider. Reporting this incident to the authorities, such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) or local law enforcement, is a crucial step. They can investigate the matter and potentially track down those involved. Additionally, contacting Facebook directly to report the fake post and any fraudulent activities on their platform can help in getting the misleading content removed.

Protecting your personal information is vital. If you’ve shared sensitive details with these individuals, consider taking steps to secure your accounts, such as changing passwords and monitoring for any unauthorized activity. It might also be helpful to reach out to legal aid or consumer protection organizations to understand your rights and any further actions you can take.
