Q: I was in a car accident last week and I was at fault. Insurance cancelled before accident.
I honestly didnt know. I am disabled, have a heart condition, and low income. I had a ticket 2 years ago for driving without insurance. My mom offered to take over my insurance and payments. . My mom is 73 and has never let me down in my 47 years. She received the notice and just assumed it was the notice to pay the monthly bill. She didn't tell me anything and just went on. Turns out the notice said that the insurance company had just decided that they didn't want to cover me anymore. I didn't know they could do that! I have received a certified letter notice from my mail carrier but, I missed him. I am terrified and don't know what to do. 2 years ago I got a ticket for no insurance and worked hard to keep insurance. I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra which due to the theft issues no one wants to insure. My previous insurance dropped me. I had this insurance after my ticket in 2022 until 6/2024. My current one 7/2024-8-2024. Now, I am here.
A: You may want to consult a competent bankruptcy practitioner about filing a chaper c7 bankruptcy which could discharge the debt.
Tim Akpinar agrees with this answer
A: The argument about difficulty in insuring with theft issues is understandable these days, but the question could arise as to whether you tried to arrange basic liability coverage. Good luck
