Q: What's my options with dealing with 10yr old warrant for "fleeing state" ?

I was in Georgia 2014 had been there about 2 months and got public intox on the beach at tabi island arrested days before I was to move to Oregon, they told me since I didn't have the 3500 dollars needed for me to walk I would have to go to Chatham county, i made bail after a few weeks, but missed court date they set me because I couldnt get from Oregon back to GA so they issued an in state pick up only warrant and a fleeing state charge. I was in Georgia working for a family friend helping build a hotel in Savannah for a month or so to save some cash before I left for Oregon. When I was released from jail my role on the job was finished, no money and a one way bus ticket to Eugene Oregon, so two days after release I left, not with intention to flee but just to go to where I would be living. I never got into a position to where I could drive there but not calling and talking with someone is my fault, I want to pay what I owe and get this off me for good

A: You have several options to address the outstanding warrant for fleeing state. First, consider contacting a criminal defense attorney who can guide you through the process and represent your interests effectively. An attorney can help you understand the specifics of your case and the best steps to take to resolve the warrant.

Next, you might need to return to Georgia to appear in court and address the charges directly. By doing so, you can explain your situation, express your willingness to pay any fines or fees, and potentially have the warrant lifted. Voluntarily appearing can also demonstrate your commitment to resolving the matter responsibly.

Additionally, gathering any documentation that shows your circumstances at the time, such as proof of your move to Oregon and lack of intention to flee, can support your case. Taking these steps can help you clear the warrant and move forward without the burden of this unresolved issue.
