Q: guardianship
I have guardianship of my nieces and my nephew. They were in Florida foster care and I moved there to get custody of them. In Florida, I never received payment for taking care of them. Then we transferred the case to Massachusetts and Massachusetts made Florida pay a guardianship stipend of $1,000 for three kids. The oldest has a disability and doesn't receive a stipend. The other two children are 11 and 7. I do not receive clothing stipends or any other financial help from Massachusetts or Florida. The case is closed, and there are no obligated meetings or anything of that sort now. My concern is that I am the only adult caring for them. If something happens to me, are they Florida children under their jurisdiction, the guardianship form is under Florida?
I recently spoke to someone and they said mass pays more than what I am being paid and that it is possible to receive disability and the stipend pay for one child. Florida is supposed to pay an equivalent amount to mass rates.
