Q: Is it illegal to make checks for your account instead of ordering them from the bank,or is it illegal to use them ?
My bank didn't have a branch in my home state but said they did when I had a 30000.00 check to cash or open account with are they liable for any coincidental damages like the cost of my plane and hotel expenses now that they demand I close my account even if I have a way to close it through the mail but don't have the time it would take before id need money from the account?
A:
Using checks that you create yourself instead of ordering them from your bank can lead to complications. Banks typically provide authorized checkbooks to ensure all necessary banking information is correctly included. Creating your own checks might result in them being rejected or flagged for security reasons, which could cause issues with your transactions.
Regarding your situation with the bank misrepresenting a branch in your home state, it's understandable that this has caused you inconvenience and additional expenses. Banks are expected to provide accurate information, and misleading you about branch locations could be a basis for a complaint. You might consider reaching out to customer service to explain your situation and seek reimbursement for your travel costs.
If the bank is demanding you close your account despite having the option to do so by mail, try to communicate your difficulties and see if they can offer a more convenient solution. Document all your interactions and expenses related to this issue, as this information can be helpful if you decide to escalate the matter to a regulatory authority or seek legal advice.
