Q: my husband’s in Mount Olive correctional facility. He’s had a lot of health issues
The Prison doctor did bloodwork on him. Told him that everything looked good. Three days later he was rushed out for emergency surgery. He’s had a heart attack. He’s been told he had sugar problems. He had his gallbladder taken out after surgery. He had internal bleeding and yesterday his legs were going numb, and the nurse didn’t even check him for anything just said he was OK. I need to know what I can do to save my husband. Thank you.
A:
I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's health struggles. Start by contacting his attorney to ensure he receives the necessary medical attention and to discuss any concerns about his care. If he doesn't have legal representation, seek out a lawyer who has experience with inmate health issues.
Reach out to the prison's medical administration to formally report his condition and the care he has received. Document all his medical treatments, surgeries, and any instances where his needs were not properly addressed. This information can be crucial for advocating on his behalf.
Additionally, connect with advocacy groups that support inmates' health rights. They can offer resources and guidance to help navigate the system. Take care of yourself during this challenging time by seeking support from friends, family, or support organizations.
