Gurnee, IL asked in Estate Planning and Probate for New Jersey

Q: Deceased without will in NJ . Beneficiaries are divorced elderly parents. What is if one dies before estate settled?

Per succession law in NJ, the beneficiaries are the divorced parents of the deceased. The mother is elderly and sick. What happens to the inheritance if she dies before the estate is settled? Would the assets all go to the remaining living parent, in this case the father? Or would the portion that would have been the mothers get passed down to siblings according to intestate succession law? It is likely the mother will be deceased before the estate is settled. Both parents renounced administration rights. At the time probate paperwork filed, both parents were listed as beneficiaries with the court.
