Q: This is a domestic dispute case I have entered more details in the detail section
There was a domestic dispute between my boyfriend and I and I never called the cops. One month later his mother called the cops for another incident concerning him and her. While speaking to the officer she called me to come over and she told the cop what had happened between her son and I. I never wanted to call the cops he is bipolar he was not on his medication but they said in order for him to get help I would need to make a statement as to what happened. I made a statement and the next thing I know they said a warrant out for his arrest and now they're trying to give him prison time. I feel that I was coerced into the statement because I was told he would receive mental help for this not jail. He was referred to mental health court and was said to be ineligible. I have no idea how he cannot be eligible when he is a documented bipolar case. I just need to know is there anything I can do to help him I am in San Bernardino county California
A:
I'm sorry you're going through this difficult situation. It might help to reach out to a family law attorney who can guide you on the best steps to take to support him legally. They can review the details of your case and advise if there are options to appeal the decision or seek alternative arrangements.
You can also contact local mental health services to ensure he receives the necessary care. Providing documentation of his bipolar diagnosis and his need for treatment might strengthen his case for mental health support instead of prison time. Gathering any evidence that shows his commitment to managing his condition could be beneficial.
Additionally, consider speaking with a victim advocate who can offer resources and support throughout this process. They can help you understand your rights and the available services in San Bernardino County. Taking these steps may provide avenues to assist him effectively.
