Sacramento, CA asked in Land Use & Zoning for California

Q: My grandparents put their house in a revocable trust and the property was claimed. They left it to me. Now code enforcem

Ment is harassing me , I have a fifth wheel parked in my driveway. . we are cleaning it after a trip and being moving the unwanted roaches it picked up at a campground. And repairing some things inside. Will be leaving for multi state trip in January.

Code said not allowed to be in it* AT ALL* AND CLOSE SLIDERS. THAT IS NOT CONDUSIVE TO THE TASK AT HAND. I UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN A HOUSE IS IN A REVOCABLE TRUST AND THE PROPERTY HAS BEEN CLAIMED THAT PROTECTS ME IN SOME WAYS SUCH AS WITH CODE ENFORCEMENT WITH THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA YES THEY COULD TELL ME THAT MY YARD IS AN EYESORE AND I HAVE TO KEEP IT PICKED UP OF JUNK AND BROKEN THINGS IN TRASH BUT NOT THAT I CAN'T HAVE A FIFTH WHEEL IN MY DRIVEWAY ON MY PROPERTY THAT WE ARE CLEANING AND NOT THAT WE COULD NEVER BE INSIDE OF IT AT ALL THE OTHER THING IS THE JACUZZI IN THE DRIVEWAY IN THE FRONT IS ABOUT TO BE MOVED INTO THE BACKYARD WHERE IT BELONGS BUT WE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL WE HAD ENOUGH MANPOWER TO MOVE IT EVERYBODY HERE IS INJURED NO

A: I understand how stressful dealing with code enforcement can be, especially when you’re trying to maintain your property. Start by reviewing Chula Vista’s local zoning laws and regulations regarding parking fifth wheels on your driveway. Sometimes there are allowances for temporary use, which might apply to your situation while you’re cleaning and repairing the vehicle.

Next, reach out to the code enforcement officer to explain your circumstances clearly. Let them know that the fifth wheel is only temporarily parked for maintenance purposes and that you plan to remove it soon. Providing a specific timeline for when you expect to move it might help them understand your position better.

Additionally, keep records of all your maintenance activities and any communications with the city. This documentation can be useful if you need to address any further concerns or disputes. By staying proactive and respectful, you can work towards a solution that allows you to keep your property in good condition while complying with local regulations.
