Q: Am I eligible for unemployment if my employer increased my hours (commute) to the point where it's affecting my health?
My schedule is 9-5, my office is close to home. As of last month I am now required to commute to our offsite locations that are roughly 2 hours away, & arrive there before 9. In the past I'd typically arrive to these locations around 9:30-10am and leave around 4pm. This was the norm for years, but now due to a formal write up I have to work roughly 12 hour days if commute is included. I've been threatened with termination and at the instruction of my boss have had to essentially beg management to keep me employed. Last week my boss told me I deserve to be disrespected, humiliated, and be called worthless. I was promised a raise two months ago which hasn't happened. It is also very clear that my job is being absorbed by someone else and I'm being forced to give over my login information and show them how to do the various things I do. This is taking a severe toll on my physical & mental health. I had to begin taking new meds for suicidal ideation. Can I quit and still get unemployment?
