Q: Can a tenant charge me for repairs/renovations upon move out if he did not report any problems while renting?
I inherited property early this year that had tenants. I decided to sell the houses because they are out of state. One of the tenants hit me with a $4000 bill (a word doc he made) upon moving out claiming that he made all these repairs and renovations to the house. He never reported to the property manager or myself that he was having issues and does not even have receipts for the work he did. He included jobs like furnace repair, replacing lights and even changing the locks. He is threatening to sue me if I don’t pay him so I just want to know if I need to get an attorney or not. Does he have a leg to stand on here?
