Q: What constitutes a restaurant for negligent hiring?

Hello my wife was at a restaurant with a friend and while she wasnt looking, the hostess stole her wallet/keys. She ransacked the wallet, took the cards and tossed the rest in the trash. My wife obviously couldnt leave without her keys, so she tracked her airtag on them and noticed her wallet and keys ransacked in the trash can in the ladies restroom. She watched the cameras with the manager and a few other employees, and they saw clear as day what the hostess did. My wife walked up to her calmly and asked her for her stuff back and there wont be any repercussions. Long story short - she ran out the back and by the time we could get home and freeze cards, she spent roughly $400 in like 30 mins. The cops found out she has multiple outstanding warrants and definitely did not run a background check (shes only been working there for 2 weeks) Is there any legal action i can take?
