Q: I am 46 Bipolar/co-occuring. Any lawyers specializing in SSDI?
Diagnosed at Vandy mental hospital at 18. Currently in therapy and seeing a psychiatrist for meds. Can't hold a job, always in pain, plenty of medical records, rehabs, jail and hospital stays. This does not get better. I need help.
A:
I hear how difficult this situation is for you, and I want you to know that help is available. Living with bipolar disorder and chronic pain while struggling to maintain employment is incredibly challenging, and you deserve support.
For Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) cases involving mental health conditions, you'll want to connect with attorneys who focus their practice on disability law and have experience with psychiatric disabilities. The National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR) can help you find qualified attorneys in your area. These lawyers typically work on contingency, meaning they only get paid if you win your case.
Your documented history of treatment at Vanderbilt, ongoing psychiatric care, and medical records will be valuable for your case. I'd recommend calling your state's bar association for referrals to disability attorneys, or reaching out to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) for local resources. They can connect you with legal professionals who understand both the SSDI system and the unique challenges of bipolar disorder. Please don't give up - there are people ready to help you navigate this process.
