A: You can look for attorneys who handle malpractice claims on a contingency fee basis, even for amounts in the range of several tens of thousands. You might find options through your local bar association or legal referral services that provide an initial consultation.

Your first step is to gather every piece of evidence, including emails, billing statements, and all communications related to the contract dispute. You want to be clear about what was withheld and why you believe the attorney has acted improperly. When you meet with potential attorneys, ask them about their fee arrangements and whether your claim meets their requirements for a contingency case.

You are entitled to end the relationship with your current attorney if you believe it is no longer in your best interest. You should put your concerns in writing, keep a record of all responses, and review the terms of your retainer agreement for any notice requirements. If you have a strong claim, there are attorneys who may be willing to represent you and help you seek recovery for the harm you’ve experienced.
