New York, NY asked in Employment Law for New Jersey

Q: Can I be fired from my job for not texting in a group chat, "Good Morning" to let them know that I'm coming to work?

At my company, I work independently and my scheduled start time is 8:45am. My coworkers and I must text 'gm' between the hours of 12am and 6:30am to confirm that we're coming to work. Once in a while, I either forget or oversleep and I don't send the text in time. If you don't send the text in time, they find somebody to cover and you don't get paid for that day. I had told my manager that I am diagnosed ADHD and that if this was going to be an issue, I would contact the DOL to legally request a reasonable accommodation but I was urged not to. Their exact words were 'Do you really want to go down that road?'

So, I'm just curious. Is this in any way enforceable? If I were terminated for failing to text a group chat over 2 hours before my scheduled starting time, is that legal?
