Q: Can a indiana warrant be executed in Illinois

I have a possible warrant in Indiana but I live in illinois

A: An arrest Warrant can be executed in ANY state. Take care of the warrant immediately. Contact an experienced criminal defense attorney who regularly practices in the jurisdiction where the warrant was issued. If it is something very minor, the attorney may be able to take care of it for you. You must meet to discuss with the lawyer so that you know how to proceed. The worst-case scenario is that you are stopped in Illinois, for some minor offense like speeding or you are simply involved in a fender-benderWhere you are not at fault. Given the warrant. Illinois police must arrest you and book you into custody. Then, they call the jurisdiction in Indiana that issued the warrant and ask that jurisdiction whether they intend to execute on the warrant. In other words, will they bring you back to Indiana? Depending upon the charge/charges for which the warrant was filed and the jurisdiction that filed it, the jurisdiction may decide not to spend the money to extradite you. That doesn't help. In the meantime, you would be in jail, Illinois for at least 2 to 6 weeks while Indiana decides whether or not it will extradite you. During that time, you will likely lose your job, have your car repossessed, and lose your apartment. Remember, you still have to pay the attorney in Indiana. I tell you all of this by way of explanation that you really must take care of it as quickly as possible. Good luck. All
