Q: Can a landlord rent a home not in their name in Alabama?
I am currently renting a property managed by the daughter of the rightful owner who passed away years ago. The owner remarried after divorcing the landlord’s mother, and no written agreement or transfer of property ownership was executed in favor of the daughter. Since the owner's passing, the daughter has been collecting rent, but the property has not been fixed, inspected, or appraised. We recently discovered that she stopped working with a lawyer to have the home legally transferred to her name. Now she wants us to leave. Can she legally rent out this home, and what are our rights as tenants in this situation?
